Watch the process! Below are images of FIN's restoration work - Photos and images by Neil Wood at Renaissance Design ~

ABOVE: FIN arrives at the shop, and gets the first step - a hot pressure wash to help remove some of the dirt and grime that has accumulated... Next step is to build her an enclosure for protection against the elements while the work is being done...

Prep work continues, above. Fiberglass repair begins, with work being done by Larry Grobe (who was part of FIN's original construction as well.)

Fiberglass repair!!...

Above, fixing those huge fins that have shown much wear and tear - getting behind and underneath the job!...

A fish out of her native habitat! FIN awaiting more work in her workshop...

Prep continues, 3/10/08. Griding off the old paint, preping the surface for the new paint work...

Prep continues for FIN's silver coat...

Silver work finished -- now only to remain are some finishing touches, before putting on a pearl finish in preparation for the road trip.

Some Spots, and some color!

Hard to see in the shadows, but FIN is ready for her trip -- Thanks everyone!!

The Migrating Salmon

(Oncorhynchus bodacicus giganticus)

After 20 years of travel, FIN was due for a makeover... In spring 2008, FIN had a major restoration done, to keep her looking her best. Through the past 20 years of road trips to various events, fairs, school activities, celebrations, parades, tours, and more, the weather and general wear and tear of time had dulled FIN's once bright salmon colors. With the work of an amazing local autobody detail artist and shop, together with local artists and other fiberglass, welding experts, FIN was redone and prepared to take a big tour, a trip with Save Our Wild Salmon all the way to Washington, DC...

Repair, welding, and paint work were completed by Neil Wood and staff at Renaissance Design, fiberglass work was done by Larry Grobe on site, and artists Sara Mall Johani and others worked closely together to help bring the project to its completion by the end of March 2008.

Thank you so much to Save Our Wild Salmon's partnership for their part in the process, and donation to the cause. Other sponsors were: Dana Roberts and Carol Anne Modena, David and Heidi Eisenhour, David Chuljian, DDS, Al and Susan Latham, Phil Meany, and Ron Hirschi -- thank you so much for your generous donations...!!
