NOSC Staff
Rebecca Benjamin, Executive Director
As Executive Director for North Olympic Salmon Coalition, Rebecca Benjamin works with the board of directors and staff to maintain a dynamic organization that works effectively to fulfill our mission. Rebecca also participates in project development and management and building and maintaining strong partner relationships. Rebecca began her restoration career in the late 90’s as an Americorps intern for the Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group, another one of our Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups. She then became the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator and later moved into project management at another non-profit before coming to NOSC as a project manager. Rebecca also has a background in outdoor education and over 13 years as a leadership and teambuilding facilitator for community groups and corporations in Washington. She is passionate about plants, birds and ecology
Kevin Long, Project Manager
Hi, I’m Kevin Long, NOSC Project Manager. I'm a grumpy, overly serious biologist with little time for frivolity. My interests include complaining, griping, sweating the small stuff, and teasing the staff... but in addition to that, I’m responsible for project permitting, implementation, and much of the fundraising and contracting needed to get these projects on the ground. I’m back from a two year hiatus from NOSC after working at NOSC for nearly 5 years. I graduated from Oregon State University in 1993 with a Bachelor's degree in Zoology and have been working in the field with reptiles, birds, fish and even people ever since!
Kai Wallin, Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator
As Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, Kai Wallin is the NOSC staff member you might talk to on the phone, see at an event, catch in the stream and find in a classroom, all on the same day. If you want to get involved with NOSC, give Kai a call.
Born in SE Alaska to a commercial fishing family, local girl Kai Wallin moved to Port Townsend at a young age and grew up attending the annual Wild Olympic Salmon Festival. After majoring in Environmental Studies and Politics at Willamette University in Salem, OR she moved out to the island of Maui and tried her hand as a Naturalist on eco-tourism whale watching boats. Her Alaskan roots called her to spend a few summers hand trolling, long lining and tendering for wild salmon around SE and Prince William Sound but an internship at YES! Magazine on Bainbridge Island reignited her passion for non-profit work and led her to a job at NOSC, where she is very happy. Her favorite color is magenta.
Randy Pendergrass, Financial Manager
As Financial Manager of North Olympic Salmon Coalition, Randy is responsible for maintaining and improving all financial reporting systems for the Coalition. These systems include Accounts Payable and Receivable, Payroll and Benefits, Grant Billing/Tracking, Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Financial Statements, Annual Operations Budgets, liaison with public accountants and serving as staff to the Board Finance Committee.
Randy came to us with many years of experience in the field of public administration/accounting and grant management. Prior to her coming on board with NOSC, Randy had worked locally for the Port Townsend School District as Project Assistant for Capital Improvement Programs, for the City of Port Townsend Public Works Department as Administrative Manager, for Copper Canyon Press as Business Manager and most recently as Grant/Contracts Manager for the City of Port Townsend Finance Department. Randy has also worked privately as an independent contractor and small business advisor.
Randy holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The Evergreen State College. GO Goeducks! Randy loves gardening, dancing Argentine Tango and hanging out with her family.
Nancy Erreca, Finance Assistant
Nancy has been visiting Port Townsend for 35 years and moved here permanently five years ago. She loves being on, around or in the water. She rows, kayaks and scuba dives. She also enjoys hiking and gardening. She feels it is great to be working for an organization like NOSC that works to restore our local environment. In the office, she assists the staff, focusing on helping the finance manager with grant billing and Rebecca with everything under the sun.
Sarah Doyle, Americorps Intern
Sarah is the Americorps intern that will be working with both NOSC and the Jefferson County Conservation District this year. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland where at a young age she developed an intense desire to protect the natural world around her. She followed her passions to college, where she received a B.A. degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Biology and spent a semester abroad, studying at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. After college, she interned with the Smithsonian’s National Zoo to study the ongoing human conflict with Asian Elephants and teach GIS to wildlife managers. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, horseback riding, and running. She looks forward to learning all about salmon and the efforts being taken to save them, and she is especially excited to meet all the volunteers who have helped to make these restoration and monitoring projects possible!
